Thriller analysis
1st video DURESS
somber piano music
a rewind effect to the sound
fade in/out
glitched title/ credits
dark scenes
slow moving camera movements
Duress uses these techniques to create a sense of mystery, especially in the use of the dark environments and the 'glitching' title and the credits. This is supported with the piano music, a common theme in many suspenseful thriller horror movies, puts the watcher/ audience on the edge of their seats, waiting for what is going to happen. This is desirable since thrillers are based around the use of that suspense and mysterious element.
2nd video A QUIET PLACE
lack of music
boosted diegetic sounds
dark scenes
slow tracking shots
silhouettes
A Quiet Place makes use of the diegetic sounds in the movie to tell the story, and this is seen used throughout the entirety of it. This technique is highly effective when wanting the audience to feel and experience the movie more. The auditory storytelling this movie uses puts the job of emotions to the audience, which makes for a great way to bring in large amounts of suspense. however the visuals are also adding to the movie, the dark scene of the store, the silhouetted child running across the screen at the start, all adding to this suspenseful opening.
3rd video SUSPENSE SCENE
high angle establishing shot/ birds eye view
dark and low lighting
out of focus shots
shadows
feet shot
after images
slow motion
pov shot
